- Brickwork is continuing on the west and south walls.
- Interior framing, plumbing, electric and HVAC is progressing from the lower level upwards.

explaining the history and details of the expansion project.

The Library Board accepts the findings of the environmental
assessment report as submitted by Ferrandino & Associates. A
resolution is adopted to make a Negative Declaration on the
environmental impact of the project.
- The Trustees formally request the School District to set a date
for a referendum on the new library. The vote will take place
on October 21 at Ossining High School.
June 2003
- Ferrandino & Associates begin the environmental
review process, including traffic survey and visual impact
assessment.
May 2003
- The Trustees select the firm of Ferrandino &
Associates (Elmsford) to provide environmental review services for
the expansion project. The SEQR process (State Environmental Quality
Review) must be followed carefully before the expansion project can
be brought to a vote.

- Architect Todd Harvey presents the Board with the
first draft of the Building Program. It calls for a building of
approx. 52,500 sq. ft.
A Building Committee is formed: three
Trustees (Lannert, Ludlum, Lawrence), three staff members (Falcone,
Dow, Koyner), and a patron (Charles Newman)
September 2002
- Architect Todd Harvey meets with staff to begin work
on the building program.
August 2002
- Letters are sent to area construction management
firms to solicit proposals for our building program. CMs assist
architects, and provide expertise on design feasibility and cost
estimation.

- The Board schedules interviews with architectural
firms.
May 2002
- Letters
are sent to architects in the tri-state area to solicit proposals
for our building program. Each firm has public library experience.
Site visits are scheduled throughout the month.
Members of the
Expansion Committee are invited to meet with the Board and discuss
their findings. Several committees distribute written
reports.
November 2001
- The School District closes on the property. The
Library Board recruits volunteers for an Expansion Committee to
suggest ideas for the new building.
September 2001
- The School Board goes to contract for purchase of
property. Closing will take place after environmental remediation of
the property is finished.
March 2001
- The referendum passes 1,076 to 165. The Library
commissions an environmental study of the Jackson building.
January 2001
- The School Board schedules a referendum for March
14, 2001 to seek public approval for the purchase of the Jackson
property. The referendum asks for up to $700,000 in acquisition
costs. The Library Board and staff begin a three-month campaign to
raise public awareness about the need to expand the present
library.
October 2000
- A space planning study is commissioned to determine
the present and future needs of the library. The study concludes
that the current building should be 25,000 square feet, and grow to
between 40,000 to 49,000 square feet by the year 2020. The current
building is 17,300 square feet.
September 2000
- The Library goes public with plans to acquire the
former Jackson Property. The School District contacts the Department
of Education in Albany for project approval for the acquisition. A
project number is necessary before a referendum can be
scheduled.
August 2000
- The Library commissions a structural analysis of the
former Jackson building. The study shows that the building is not
suitable for library use unless substantially upgraded. Demolition
is recommended as an option.
July 2000
- The Trustees of the Ossining Library meet with the
members of the School Board, and formally request that the School
District acquire the former Jackson property on behalf of the
Library.
June 2000
- Jackson Lincoln-Mercury (43-49 Croton Avenue) closes
its doors after 75 years of business. The Ossining Library expresses
interest in purchasing the property.
