Trustee Candidate: Althema Goodson

Sidney Sheldon said it best “libraries store the energy that fuels the imagination. They open up windows to the world and inspire us to explore, achieve and contribute to improving our quality of life.” This is a statement Althema believes in.

Althema is a lifelong resident of the Ossining Community, where she has gone through the education system and graduated from Ossining High School. She vividly remembers the library being her second home.

Believing that knowledge is power, and you should be on a mission to learn something new each day, Althema felt it was imperative to give back and decided she wanted to serve on the Library Board. The Library Board would be the perfect place to bring her skills, personality, innovation, and expertise for the betterment of the community.

Joining the Board of Trustees in 2019, it was time to roll up her sleeves and allow the work of the community to continue. In 2020, when the pandemic hit, all members of the Library Board, along with the staff, did everything they could to ensure that the library remained open; the prominent resource that it is to the community.

Althema helped to reinvigorate the Library Foundation which has since taken off and is under great leadership. Althema was also instrumental in helping to develop the Library’s Strategic DEI Plan.

Althema holds a B.S. in Business Administration, and a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership. She is the Owner of the Goodson Agency LLC, Co-Owner of the Dr. George R. Hill Legacy Center, Co-Chair of the Equity Task Force, Co-Founder of the Juneteenth Council and many more community initiatives.

With a versatile career history in business, organizational leadership, finance, and a passion for service, she is looking forward to being able to continue to serve Ossining, and it’s neighboring communities.
