The Ossining Public Library’s beloved Steinway Grand Piano is in need of repair.
Providing world-class entertainment to the community relies on a world-class instrument.
Our Steinway grand piano needs significant repair that exceeds the regular maintenance conducted by our excellent piano technician. The piano and its action parts were built in 1980, and the action and repetition have been steadily wearing out over the piano’s years of use. When it belonged to the great Camille Budarz, the piano was used heavily, and it has had regular use since the library obtained it. Performers have noticed a slow response with the action above middle C, and problems with the piano’s pedal, necessitating repairs that would rebuild the action, perform work on the keys and keyframe, and perform work on the lyra and pedals.
Quotes obtained by the library for extensive repairs such as these range from $10,000 to $25,000.
The Ossining Public Library Foundation recognizes the importance of the piano to our library and our community, and has pledged to help raise money to fund our piano’s repair, and host a virtual concert. The Friends of the Ossining Public Library have also committed to helping fund the repair; the library is grateful for the great partnership between the Friends and the Foundation and their support for the library.
