Today we are launching our Early Literacy Bags for Kids initiative. Each Friday for 10 weeks we will be giving away an early literacy activity and some accompanying literature to explain why it is important in the development of pre-reading skills. According to the American Library Association, “early literacy does not mean early reading instruction or teaching babies to read; it is the natural development of skills through the enjoyment of books, the importance of positive interactions between babies and parents, and the critical role of literacy-rich experiences.”
Some of the activities included in our kits are play dough, bubbles, bells and shakers, rhythm sticks, puzzles, stamping markers, and bilingual board books. We look forward to sharing these tips and toys with you as we grow Ossining’s newest readers!
