It’s Summer!

Jul 02, 2019 | Children's Room

On Wednesday, June 26, the Children’s and Teen Rooms hosted a Summer Reading Kickoff Party. Held in the lower parking lot behind the library, about 200 kids and teens enjoyed games, face painting, snacks, and dancing. To see all the photos, click here.

Almost 100 children signed up for the Summer Reading Program. For more information about Summer Reading, click here. This year, the theme is A Universe of Stories, and we’re celebrating all things space in a big way. If you’ve been in the library, you probably noticed the space-themed decorations (check out the planets hanging over all the service desks) and the rocket ship in the Children’s Room just waiting for a photo op. Here is where you can see all the rocket ship photos. They are also on display in the Children’s Room.

We had a surprise visitor at the kickoff party: Chief Sylvester and his ice cream truck. Ossining Police gave out a free ice cream to all the kids (and some grownups, too) who wanted one. Thank you, Chief Sylvester!

This week, we’ve been getting ready for a summer full of fun. Our programs start on Monday, July 8.

For the younger set, Mother Goose (Mondays at 10 am), Time for Twos (Thursdays at 10 am), and Baby Play Time (Fridays at 11 am, in the Budarz Theater) will all be returning.

For school-aged kids, we’ve got some fun programs returning, and some new ones, too.

On Mondays at 2 pm, Kindful Mindful Yoga, for children ages 4-6, will help children become calmer, stronger, and happier.

On Tuesdays from 11-12:30 and Wednesdays from 2-3:30, we’ll have drop-in STEAM activities for kids ages 5-9. Stop by STEAM Explorers anytime during these hours.

Tuesday afternoons, Discover Your World is returning. Each summer, children go on a whirlwind tour of the people, places, and history of our planet.

Thursday afternoons at 4 pm, I ♥ Art will be back. Kids ages 5 and up can create art and get a little messy.

Check back as summer progresses for more information.
