One Saturday morning per month, the Children’s Room rolls out the welcome yoga mat for a half-hour introductory yoga class for kids and their caregivers. Family yoga stretches the body, calms the mind, and exercises the imagination. Ossining yogis of any age and level, along with caregivers, are welcome to attend. Each session includes not only a series of child (and adult) friendly yoga postures, but also calming breath work that both enhances concentration and quiets the nervous system. Storytime is also incorporated into the ½ hour session, with books chosen to reinforce such yogically foundational concepts as calm, community, kindness, and health. Ending each session is a craft activity to further help kids with skills related to focus and creativity. February’s session, for example, included a series of balance postures; a reading of Yoga Bunny, by Brian Russo; and a Yoga Bunny craft made with a fluffy cotton tail and yoga mat. Upcoming Family Yoga Times are Saturday, March 21st, Saturday, April 25th, and Saturday, May 16th, at 11 am.
